Ask your question:

Question:Olga M:

2009-12-24

What would you like to get for your Christmas present?
e-mail:-

I want peace for whole world.

Question:Maggie:

2009-12-20

What your opinion of Wozzech performance at the Bolshoi New Stage? Do you think it was succesful?
e-mail:-

It’s rather difficult to find the right answer, because during the performance I was engaged with the orchestra and with my own conductor’s duties. I can’t tell you about the performance as a viewer. Only audience can talk about successfulness of the performance.

Question:Galya:

2009-12-19

You have the opportunity to co-operate with The Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra. How could you evaluate its professional skill? Does your new assignment mean that the audience of Novosibirsk will see you rarely? Thanks in advance.
e-mail:-

No-one but audience can set up the merit rating. I think that the teamwork results are imposing. As for the second question, Novosibirsk remains the center of my universe.

Question:Serge:

2009-12-15

What do you think about the joint project of Igor Krutoi and Dmitry Hvorostovsky as well Anna Netrebko appearing in a commercial? Could you ever act in a commercial and what kind of products could you advertise?
e-mail:-

I wish I could advertise the poison that kills the mass culture. I would put on the tails, brush my teeth and bare them. “Drink this poison and the mass culture will die!” The trailer should be made by the most glam style director and all main channels would transmit it.

Question:Marina:

2009-12-07

Do you think that the influence of the theatre could be destructive?
e-mail:-

The theatre can be destructive if it gives to public just the entertainment. The show draws audience's attention away from reality with its problems, gives the illusion. Its action is like an analgetic, but it’s just a sense of relief without the recovery.

Question:Mya:

2009-12-01

Dear maestro! What kind of poem could express your current state of mind?
e-mail:-

Poem by Charles Baudelaire "The Death of Lovers"....

Question:Nick:

2009-11-29

Not long ago the mass communication media announced the information that you will set up new experimental project. Could you please tell what this project is and when it will be presented to public?
e-mail:-

We would have some interesting projects. The 4th of May The Requiem by Alexei Siumak will take place on The Moscow Art Theatre stage. There are two operas in use – “Asteroid 62” and “Nosferatu” (libretto by Dimitris Yalamas) by composer Dmitry Kurliandsky. We will also do “Love for three oranges” with Oleg Kulik in Novosibirsk.

Question:Anthony:

2009-10-22

Dear maestro! I was shocked by the performance within the walls of The Winzavod. Why do you go from one extreme to another – from a performance in catholic cathedral, owing to this fact everybody speaks about your deep piety, to the performance of absolutely dark compositions into The Winzavod`s vault. It made me feel like yelling in frustration till tearing apart my throat. If you call it the new form of opera, it seems to me that it’s time to act upon the Paul Celan's advice and commit suicide.
e-mail:-

When you read the Notes from Underground by Dostoevsky, don’t you feel like yelling? There is more mercy and love for the humanity in the art in the basements, than in the churches. Our 2d Territory Fest performance was devoted to God. What about our present one, these are the thoughts about mercy to the humanity.

Question:Jenny:

2009-10-10

What did you dream about last night?
e-mail:-

I dreamed about my grandma’s home. I`m missing this time so much. I associate it with Mahler 4th Symphony…

Question:Alice:

2009-06-06

Dear Teodor, did you like to fell yourself as an actor? Will your part be dubbed or will you appear in film without dubbing-in?
e-mail:-

The director decided to keep the original track without using the dubbing-in, because I often express my own opinion. There isn’t the scenario separated into cues. But the director knows what will be in the end of filming. If I had the offer to play for example Isidor Ducasse the most mysterious writer of 19 century, who called himself Comte Lautreamont, I would accept this offer without hesitation.

Question::[Melisanda]::

2009-05-27

Teodor, what do you think, what action could diminish the mass culture’s influence? Is it possible for the true art to defeat the mass culture factors? What kind of methods should be used to create the well-educated public?
e-mail:-

We need the culture revolution… We must break such stereotypes, which Hollywood factory promote to us. People should fight against its popularization, but still this is a very difficult problem. One of the historical periods had been marked by waste of important part of Russian intelligency, which could become the motive power in developing the modern spiritual culture. The revolution shouldn’t destroy the spirituality and the true culture, but it was forgotten by mankind who blew up the cathedrals and built the pool on their place. Each man must wake up in the morning with the aim for searching right guidelines, which could enrich his mind, instead of transforming the individuality into a vegetable. The person should make a step to the termination of manipulation process. The sellers never think of people’s physical and mental health, they just sell a cheap product. Why the McDonalds is more popular, than a good Russian tavern? Because the first one gives to people a kind of superficial taste which doesn’t go deep inside.

Question:Anthony:

2009-01-10

Dear Teodor! Could you tell me why you are interested in works of the extremal composer Mr. Filanovsky? I don’t understand at all why he calls his opuses music?
e-mail:-

Mr. Filanovsky is a new Mayakovsky in music. He apprehends and explores the material anatomy through the kidneys of modern world. He knows the most correct homeopathic session in music, that is why his music is a true music with a capital M. The classical aesthetics is eliminated mercilessly by new theories. So, Mr. Filanovsky put the rat poison into the plates of every aesthetic bird who are fed by human milk of our life’s devastation.

Question:Anthony:

2008-10-19

Dear Mr. Currentzis, how did you dare to perform the experiment with Mozart “Requiem”!? Don’t you think that it was a blasphemy to complete this work of a genius by the scribble (sorry, I can’t find the other word) of modern composers? Their works are too disputable and they don’t claim to be compared with Mozart music.
e-mail:-

You have seen the Requiem score, haven’t you? Have you ever heard about Mr. Sussmayr? This autumn our Requiem performance is nothing more but action with specific aim. We have to remind to everyone, that Mozart is not the museum piece at all, but he’s the author, whose heritage is the most actual theme for the composer’s society. It was very useful for them to touch the secrets of this musical composition. I was interested more in the research process, the immersion of the composers going down into this precious thing, than in the final aesthetic result.

Question:Roman Nagin:

2008-08-14

Do you like to work in Russia? To your mind what differs the Russian audience from others?
e-mail:-

The Russian audience is the best audience in the world, the most opened. I love it a lot. It drives me mad when someone criticizes severely Russia. I love Russia very much and I love people who live here. That’s why I work here. There, in the West, they don’t understand anything, their live is superficial. People are not open for the music, they are protected from it. Only in Russia a little girl can come running up to the stage and ask for the autograph; only here a listener can bring you sweets as gratitude. In the West people give flowers to the backstage staff and those bring them out to the stage in a final bow-time. May be Russia looks a bit barbarian for the western people but in reality they are barbarians. Here’s a civilization. For example, the Orthodox iconographic art is not an art for them. They admire El Greco, a great Spanish artist who was an author of the most famous masterpieces of the western iconographic art, but he was Greek, had eastern origins. Today, the 3rd of June we celebrate the Vladimir icon of the Blessed Virgin. The people of the West are not able to understand its beauty, it’s not somebody’s picture, and it’s full of angel’s light. Western way of life is primitive. There’s less sin but also less goods.

Question:Monetto:

2008-08-14

I’m an artist and I’d like to know - what do you think about painting? It seems you neglect it a bit in your performances… I terribly love music too (it changed my life a lot) but the decoration of the stage is important as well, don’t you think so?
e-mail:-

A theatre still carries a completely different content than the canvases in the art gallery. Pictures present a perfect full-fledged world of an artist’s imagination. Theatre is not an exhibition. A still should serve for the necessary background in order to create a particular atmosphere, to arrange the specific space and conditions for the dramatic ideas. Theater still must be more stochastic than an eye-catcher.

Question:Tatiana:

2008-08-14

Dear Theodor, I go to your concerts, listen and read your interviews. You seem a philosopher to me, therefore I’ve got a question to you. It’s astonishing that you talk so well about Russia! How do you explain all those absurdity that occurred to Russia in the 20th century? After all, Russia and its nation made a revolution of its own free will; we destroyed our culture, and its best representatives including musicians!
e-mail:-

Russia is a very big country, that’s why the internal catastrophes occur on a global scale. There in the West know it very well and they still cherish a hope to wipe Russia out. We must not allow them to put it into practice. We must resist and try to save all the best of the original Russian culture, to preserve the Russian dream. I’d like to hope that my role will be significant too, the same as the role of Theophanes the Greek or Marius Ivanovich Petipa who founded the Russian ballet. The formal indication of the nationality doesn’t mean anything. To be Russian means to possess a progressive knowledge.

Question:Poetique:

2008-08-14

I have two questions. The first one is - could you please tell us more about your dreams? And the second is about the literature. What kind of literature do you like?
e-mail:-

I dream of children playing in the distance, in the sunset. Their voices died very long time ago in chaos and now appear again in the black aureole right in front of my eyes, like fragrance… There is a draught of gentle breeze behind the broken window; it seems he brings me aroma of Jerusalem. The prophet girls run after me with the knives in their hands, they want to kill me. The prophets accuse a composer of having sold his dreams. The composer like Judas Iscariot confesses and asks for mercy. The second coming of the dream begins and the mirrors show us the faces of who we had to be. We are full of those colorless lights which surrounded us when we were adolescents. It’s snowing in July inside of my flat. I remember only the smell of her hair… She doesn’t understand anything; she just pours her tears upon the flowers. The sounds sink in a draw-well where on the bottom lies a splinter of the moon. In the night she comes out to my brothers and the nightingales rest on her lips. She sings a multi tone hymns, strange lullabies on the sliding null harmony. I feel the emerald silence of the angels not with ears but intramuscularly, as a tension arising inside of a deaf-and-dumb man when he feels the vibration of the 9th symphony of Beethoven. I dream of a beautiful morning. Every flower blossoms out and talks to me, saying gently: “Look at me; you are the same as we are”. There’s a mysterious affinity between us and dolphins and we can speak the null language with cold stars. This is the atmosphere of my dreams.

I’d be glad if people who come to my concerts read “The Lay of Love and Death Cornet Christopher Rilke”.

Question:Margo:

2008-08-14

What do you think the music hides and reveals for a human being?
e-mail:-

Music gives us an opportunity to get into the remembrance of our true life, beauty, our ideal dreams; it shows us the pictures of our lost motherland. Unfortunately our life isn’t similar to the music or fantasies. There’s a breakup between the imagination and reality. The time always converts the imagination but so meagrely, leaving just few moments.

Question:Noname:

2008-08-14

Theodore, to your mind what is the mission of the Christian musician in our crazy time?
e-mail:-

I would say to see the Christ not only on the icons but also in life. You should leave the orthodox theory and enter the orthodox life, which is a movement and courage. Sometimes it’s necessary to be against the order, against the rules of morality if you want to remain a Christian - for example to return good for evil. This is the revolutionary movement.

Question:Noname:

2008-08-14

To your mind what peculiar features of the psyche can characterize an extraordinary talented person or even a genius?
e-mail:-

Every extraordinary personality gifted to a great extends with the creativity has its own special features… A man of genius is very individual. There are no common features. Surely such person has a specific psycho, a unique nervous system… Generally speaking the absence of happiness, discontent, and instability accompany him during all his life. It’s impossible to make up the exact horoscope for every sign of the ingenious zodiac.
